We need more than Time Management

Managing our time and family schedule, is a top responsibility for moms, right? We keep track of…who needs to be where, who needs to be picked up…special events…due dates for school….when is the grocery shopping going to get done….it’s a large part of our role.

About a year ago when I was working through what my coaching program would look like and trying to determine the big problem I could support moms in “fixing”…my first thought was time management.

That if we could just get our schedules under control and managed….all would be good…right??

It’s not that easy though, it’s an important piece, but there is more…

To start, traditional time management tips can help us and I do recommend them when I work with clients…specifically:

  • Using a planner/calendar
  • Making lists
  • Breaking down large projects/tasks
  • Setting a timer
  • Prioritizing

But…I realized as I started to talk about time management, I wasn’t talking about always being on time…following a strict schedule…getting everything done all of the time…in fact, I was talking the opposite!

I was talking about being kind to yourself if you’re running late, having realistic expectations of what can be done, having a routine in a place but having the flexibility to know that things don’t always work out as planned and that’s okay.

As I realized all of this, I gave it a new name, I wasn’t just helping moms with time management …we were practicing Self-Love Time Management.

What is self-love time management?

  • Practicing Self-Compassion
  • Saying “no” to things that don’t work for you
  • Delegating
  • Being patient with yourself and the season of life you’re in
  • Focusing on what you can control
  • Integrating down time into your schedule
  • Incorporating self-care for YOU!
  • Making sure your own needs get met

I am fully aware that many of these are much easier said than done, they take time to work through, time to practice, time to implement….but when you make the effort to practice self-love time management you will find more joy, peace and comfort in motherhood.

If you were to pick one aspect of self-love time management to implement…what would it be?
